Choosing Good Public Domain Content

July 21st, 2009 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

In this article i’m going to give you some tips on what to look for when you go to public domain places.
This is probably the hardest part of the whole process, not because public domain works are of no interest to people any longer, but because most of the really good ones have been done to death, like Frankenstein, Dracula, Alice In Wonderland, Sherlock Holmes and others. Coming up with a new twist for these classic public domain works may be a little hard, unless you have an absolutely twisted imagination.
You are probably best off looking for pieces that are known, but haven’t been done to death. There have been many old classic movies from back in the 20s and 30s that were done once and never done again. You might want to look into some of these.
Your best source for public domain material is probably the biography, especially if it was somebody from the late 1800s or early 1900s. Many of these people were barely touched on in both literature and film. Think about it. How many movies on the Wright Brothers have you seen?
Now, I know what you are thinking. So what? Who wants to read about the Wright Brothers now when we have 767s and jets that can break the sound barrier? Well, tell that to all the people who flocked to see “The Aviator” with Leonardo DiCaprio as Howard Hughes. There are many fascinating figures in history who you can either write about, make a movie on, create a comic book for, or simply release an already public domain work on this person.
And therein lies the problem that almost everyone runs into when trying to decide not only what public domain piece to use but how to use it. Remember, just because a public domain piece is art, literature, or whatever form it may happen to be in, doesn’t mean that it has to stay in that form. Sometimes having too many choices makes it difficult to decide just what to do with the piece of work.
Unfortunately, this is a problem that plagues not only people who deal with public domain works but also people who create brand new pieces of literature or film. There is never any guarantee that the work is going to be commercially successful. If you are looking for guarantees and the sure fire “public work masterpiece” that is going to make you a ton of money, you are in the wrong business. As with anything else, deciding on a public domain piece of work and then deciding how to present it, is a risk. But the rewards for a successful choice and reproduction method can be quite substantial.
If you think not, just take a look at the works of Walt Disney. His characters were ALL based on public domain works. His source was the Brothers Grimm fairy tales. This was a man with a vision and knew he could do something with these characters. With a little modernization, he turned them into the classics that we love today.

Simple Ways To Manage Time In Your Business

July 21st, 2009 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

There are many tips on how to create time for yourself and to manage your time in your business. Here are several items that may just help you remember the basics.
Do not allow someone else’s lack of planning destroy your time plan. Many people find it hard to turn someone down especially if it is a customer or a good friend. You more than likely have your day planned as to what needs to get done in your business and then along comes someone and wants you to “help” them in whatever problem they are having with their website, etc. Most of the time, the reason they are having trouble is lack of planning on their part or lack of understanding of some basic rules of software or programming. If you stop and interrupt what you are doing, it will impede your progress in your own business. Learn to just say “no” when the time is not right for you. Of course, if you are free to help, then that is fine as well. But, make sure that you are not being “used”.
Make time to train – If you have assistants or others that help you in your business, take the time to train them in specific tasks that will free up your time. This way, you will spend less time taking over tasks that they cannot complete and interrupting your productivity flow. Keep the things you need to work and to train in places where you can find them rapidly. Keep your filing system organized and don’t just file haphazardly, but logically and systematically and you will find that the work flows a lot smoother. Teach your assistants to do the same so that you can access what they do as well.
Switch tasks when you get stumped and cannot come up with the right solution to a problem – This makes your mind relax and stop concentrating on the problem. Somehow the mind, however, continues to work on the problem. When you go back to the problem, relaxed and refreshed, the mind jumps back in and the solution is usually revealed. Putting off a decision sometimes is the best path if you are not sure you do not have the right solution.
See if you can make routine tasks automatic – Do you have letters that need to be sent many times to clients? Do you have questions that are asked over and over again? Are there special situations that are resolved in the same way many times? Try to think through your business and the time being spent and put a series of autoresponder messages together that you can send when necessary. This will free you up tremendously for time to spend on tasks that are more creative and challenging.
Make appointments with yourself to do the important steps in your business – In other words, take the time to analyze what you need to do to grow or to keep control of your business in a better manner. There may be tons of pressing situations that are demanding attention, but you also need to have some time to be able to make important decisions and to think and plan on the important, rather than the mundane, items of everyday business.
If you take control of your time and your management skills you will find that your business continues to grow and prosper. You will be a much more relaxed and creative person and have a lot more fun working your business.

Women’s Ministry Resources in Abundance

July 21st, 2009 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

Women’s ministry resources have grown immensely in abundance over the past few years. This is in part the result of the growth in women’s ministry. Women have developed a new and fresh esteem both in the eyes of the community and in their own eyes. These resources are directed at celebrating women and assisting them in celebrating themselves while developing themselves as strong Christian women. This is a remarkable revolution and one that is long overdue.
Women’s ministry resources include everything from retreat planning to women’s groups to outreach and Christian education. While Christian churches vary some in the direction of their ministries, women’s ministries are making a difference in the world.
They are offering wonderful ideas and events that encourage women to embrace themselves fully and become the Christian women God intended. The abundance of women’s ministry resources mean that regardless of the actual mission, there are ample resources available to create the program which meets every last woman’s needs. There is so much hope in women’s ministries, and this hope leads to strength of the community.
With the development of new women’s ministry resources, there are of course varying belief systems within the Christian church. The development of new women’s ministry resources has effectively addressed these varying beliefs to provide quality Christian based resources for all women’s ministries. No two ministries are exactly the same, and the development of high-quality resources means that there is always room for more.
New ideas need to be shared in larger forums, and new ideas need serious critiquing in order to come up with the best possible Women’s ministry resources for every avenue of the Christian faith. This can be an amazing process as women come together to develop ample resources and provide sounding boards for each woman to express herself while embracing other Christians. When greater emphasis is placed on commonly held Christian beliefs rather than disagreements, the development of these resources could really be an amazing process. Who wouldn’t want to be part of something so revolutionary?
Christian faith-based women’s ministries have received some criticism, and been accused of helping only those who share their faith and are willing to join the church. But these criticisms are being dispelled by the new development of women’s ministry resources which provide a safe and honest environment where women can build community without any pressure to commit to the church.
This allows women to see for themselves what Christianity can do for their community, their families, and their own personal development. Often by simply opening the door to women and offering honest and devotional assistance, there is no need to try to pull additional members into the church. Even small grass roots churches find the appropriate resources, and people come to find a new light.
New and exciting women’s ministry resources are able to provide a large variety of options for ministries of all sizes and devotions, which means that there is ample opportunity for everyone to get involved and participate in the necessity of women’s ministries. Tailoring your selected ministry resources toward your particular goals and directives allows for the potential impact of a women’s ministry to become larger than life and shine with a light so bright it simply can no longer be extinguished.
One of the most exciting, and potentially positive, developments in women’s ministry resources is the ability to connect to other ministries from all over the world. These forums provide an honest and supportive place to share ideas and ask questions, and of course to bond with each other in the common cause.
The development of these women’s ministry resources has created a community that stretches beyond borders and into the heart of Christian women leaders all over the world. The free exchange of thoughts and ideas has helped countless women’s ministries get off the ground and get out into the community in a manner that brings forth the spirit of Christ.
If it could be part of every woman’s mission to join and participate in these forums, the development of women’s ministry resources would reach new heights. This is a high achievement and exemplifies the very heart of what Christian leadership and ministries are really all about.

Why Should You Lose Weight?

July 21st, 2009 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

People begin diets for any number of reasons. A doctor may recommend weight loss as a means to prevent future health problems like adult on-set diabetes or congestive heart failure. A once active person may want to resume a favorite high-performance sport, and seek to lose a few pounds to better enjoy play. A person about to undergo surgery may need to lose some weight before being admitted to the hospital.
For many, many others, vanity plays a large role in the desire to lose weight. An upcoming high school reunion, a desire to wear a sexy bikini to the beach, and just wanting to look and feel beautiful every day fuels many of us to try various diet and exercise programs and hope for the best. Unfortunately, saddled with vanity is another factor that may spur people to lose weight for the wrong reasons – societal pressure.
Watch any television program, open up any fashion magazine, and you will be bombarded with images of rail-thin celebrities and models, glamorized by the media as the ideal body image and definition of beauty. True, while today’s top movie stars, athletes and singers may evoke an aura and personality people find appealing, it should be noted that the standards they maintain need not necessarily be held by everyone else.
Consider the life of a famous actress or pop star – how many professionals are in her employ to keep her looking young and beautiful? Factor in a hair stylist, makeup artist, fashion consultant, personal trainer, and personal chef, and it is easy to see how one person can look like a million dollars. More than likely, a million dollars is how much it costs annually to stay that beautiful!
Consider, too, that being thin is not always equated to being healthy. It would be unfair to say that the petite, size 2 movie star is healthier than the busty, size 14 rap artist just because she weighs less for her frame. For all we know, the rap artist may exercise daily and be a vegatarian, while the movie star gorges on junk food and lives a rather sedentary life.
Being thin also does not exempt you from health problems – genetics can play a large role in your risks for heart ailments, high cholesterol, and low blood sugar. Consequently, being underweight presents health problems as well. Whoever said “You can never be too rich or too thin” didn’t consider that being underweight increases your risks for osteoporosis, anemia, fertility problems, and a compromised immune system.
So why should you lose weight?
You should lose weight because it is what you want to do for yourself, not because a magazine tells you to do so. You should lose weight if you feel the change in your body will change your life for the better. If you feel losing weight…
…will improve your sexuality and stamina
…will give you more confidence and raise self-worth
…will boost your self-esteem every time shop for clothes and browse smaller sizes
…will allow you to better enjoy activities with your family
…will give you a new, positive outlook on life
…then definitely consider doing it to benefit yourself and your life. When you do lose the weight, then society will benefit from your positive mood and improved health. But let this be a decision only you or your doctor dictates, not society.

All About Thrift Savings Accounts Part Two

July 20th, 2009 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

Are TSP plan participants allowed to select their own stocks? With a TSP plan, participants are not permitted to pick their own individual stocks, instead, they choose investment allocations from up to five different agency approved plans. These include U.S. treasury bonds, fixed income assets, international stocks, common stocks, and small capitalization stocks, each of which carries their own risks and rewards.
Fixed income index investments, known as F funds, are invested in high quality securities which track the LBA bond index, a group of U.S. government, mortgage, and corporate securities. F funds are similar to performance to the vanguard total bond market index fund, or VBMFX. With an F fund, TSP participants with low risk tolerance are able to avoid the stock market.
Government securities investments, or G funds, are invested in short term U.S. treasury securities or bonds, which are guaranteed by the federal government. These types of investments are unique in the sense that they are government securities backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. Government, and are equivalent to high yield stable value funds, meaning that there is almost no risk of either loss of principal or investment.
Small capitalization stock investments or S funds are invested in a portfolio of stocks that replicate the performance of the Wilshire 4500 Index, and are the largest U.S. stocks, excluding stocks of the standard and poor, or S&P index.
International stock investments, or I funds, are invested in a portfolio of stocks that are designed to track the performance of an index representing international equity markets, mirroring the Morgan Stanley EAFE Index.
What are TSP lifecycle funds? Lifecycle funds were introduced into TSP plans in 2005, and are composed of percentages of the five selected funds based on the employees target retirement year. These types of funds are expected to be restructured in 2010, when the then L2010 fund will become similar to the current L Income fund, and a more aggressive L2050 is expected to be established.
TSP Retirement plans vary by employee classification, and by agency, so it is important to discuss your individual options with your human resources director, who can help you ensure that you are enrolled under the right TSP retirement plan, and work to help you develop an investment, contribution, and retirement strategy. Your personal financial planner will be able to provide you with valuable retirement planning information and advice as well.

Understand Reasonable Market Pricing
The foundation upon which your home purchasing efforts need to be made is to come to an understanding of what are reasonable home prices when buying Tampa real estate. How To Finance Your Study

July 20th, 2009 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

You’ve decided to go back to college to get your degree – that’s great, as more career opportunities will likely open up for you, as well as being able to earn more money.
However, to get that degree, you’re going to have to spend some considerable money in order to be able to take the courses you need to take and complete.
First, you need to determine how much the courses and supplies you need to take the courses (such as your computer, Internet connection, printer, etc.) will cost, then you need to see how much of it you can afford to pay out-of-pocket. Obviously, the more you can pay yourself, the better, as you want to try to avoid taking out loans to pay for this as much as possible, since you will need to pay that money back or risk ruining your financial credit history. With other cost-of-living expenses you likely have in your life now, adding another one would only be as a last resort, not as a first option.
Check over your current expenses and see if there is anything you can cut back on and/or eliminate – perhaps eliminating cable channels or cable all together to reduce or eliminate your cable bill, eliminating call waiting to reduce your phone bill, not having your shirts and pants ironed as much to reduce your laundry costs, cutting back on utilities and electricity use to reduce those costs, etc. Any bill you can make less expensive or eliminate all together will give you more money to pay for college costs yourself.
If you are pursuing a higher degree in the same field you obtained your bachelor degree in, see if your employer will reimburse you for all or part of your tuition – after all, his/her company will benefit from your higher degree because of your upgraded skills and knowledge, so they would likely be willing to reimburse you to some extent.
While most scholarships and grants apply to high schoolers about to enter college for the first time, there is free money available for “non-traditional” students as well.
You should file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to see what federal aid you can attain to help pay for your education.
However, don’t stop there; many colleges and universities offer institutional grants and scholarships, including for “non-traditional” students. Some states also offer grants. Also check with your local department of labour for vocational educational grants and opportunities. Finally, make sure you utilize the many free scholarship search engines on the Internet to see what other forms of aid you can apply for.
Even with these measures, it’s possible you may still have to take out at least one loan to pay for your education. Graduate students can borrow up to $18,500/year on federal Stafford loans, which carry a relatively low interest rate of 6.8%. Plus, you normally have 10+ years to pay it off. For those who need extra cash, you can get it through the new Graduate Plus Loans, (which debuted in July 2006,) but the interest rates for these types of loans are higher than 6.8%.
If you can plan ahead, you can take advantage of some of the tax-sheltered savings vehicles that are available to younger students and their parents. Section 529 college-savings programs are one example. These allow for tax-deferred investment growth in mutual funds or other investments, with withdrawals being tax-free if they are used for college costs.
Another option is to open up a Roth IRA if you’re currently working. Money reflecting your original contributions can be withdrawn tax-free at any time, while earnings can be withdrawn tax-free if the account has been held at least five years, along with certain other conditions being met.
Another option is to withdraw money from your traditional IRA – the withdrawals are taxable, but you can avoid the 10% penalty that normally applies if you use the money for college costs. Another source of funds can come from the Lifetime Learning Credit, a federal tax break that is worth up to $2000/year.
As you can see, there are many sources of cash you can use to fund your return to college. To find out about every resource you can use, you need to research online, as well as through the documentation the college’s financial aid office sends you. This will obviously take time. That’s why it is important to not just decide to go to college at the last minute and then try to frantically do research on what monetary resources there are so you can afford the cost.
Instead, plan ahead of time – if you plan on going back to college, do so in 6-12 months if at all possible, planning your budget, cutting back on unnecessary expenses, researching all the monetary resources available to you, and preparing to adjust to coursework again. If you do it in this fashion, it will be less stressful on you and your family and will enable you to perform better in your courses.

Free Co-op Mailing Listing Service Helps Book Publishers & Self Publishers Sell Books

July 20th, 2009 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

Publishers know they can save a lot of money joining others in joint or cooperative mailings. Co-op mailing is not a new concept or idea, but finding other publishers who want to mail to the same lists isn’t easy.
A free service is helping publishers sell more books through cooperative mailings with other publishers. Publishers submit listing information, as to what kind of mailing they want to do, the nature of the books or items they want to promote, and contact information. DVDs, audiobooks, CDs, software and other items work easily here too. The information is published each month free in a newsletter for entrepreneurs and publishers – ‘Helen Hecker’s Biz Hotline.’ We aren’t involved in helping with any arrangements you decide on. We only help you find others who are interested in joining with you by publishing the information in the newsletter, free.
You arrange with others and send out your fliers in co-op mailings to, for example, public libraries, independent bookstores, new age bookstores, children’s bookstores, hospitals, hospital gift shops, elementary schools, high schools, college libraries, college newspapers, colleges & universities, various departments in elementary schools, high schools, colleges, and universities, to medical libraries, military libraries, museums, and Christian and religion-related lists, etc.
You arrange with others and send out your press releases to daily newspapers, editors, travel columnists, health columnists, medical columnists, weekly newspapers, major magazine and trade publications in the genre field of the book – business, health, medical, disability, travel publications, etc. I’ve mailed several of my own press releases, successfully, in one business-size envelope third class ( bulk mail) for many years, promoting several of our books, videos, DVDs, titles and services and reaping a ton of orders for us in return. We’ve had thousands of write-ups -articles, items and features in many publications over the years. I think the envelopes are opened in the mail room and the editors never see the envelopes that press releases come in. Also they’ll never know if it arrived by priority mail, first class or third class (bulk) mail.
For many years I ran a sideline fee-shared cooperative mailing service to help our publishing company branch and other publishers, promote titles and sell more books through press releases to the print media (newspapers and magazines, for example) and news releases to the broadcast media (radio station talk shows, TV shows, Oprah, Today show, Good Morning America, etc.) Also we sent fliers to libraries, schools, hospitals, hospital gift shops, newspapers, independent bookstores, new age bookstores, etc.
The costs to do a co-op mailing are established by you and your co-op partners, for the amount necessary to do the mailing, then divided up and paid for well in advance of the mailing. This would include the cost of buying and printing #10 business-size envelopes, the cost of renting the labels, postage cost determined by the weight of the piece and other factors, and cost for the mailing house to do the mail out. All fliers are shipped directly to the mailing house with instructions on the box as to which mailing it’s for. The lead person gives them instructions so they know the boxes are coming.
We’ve always had good results from cooperative mailings and many others have reported they have too. Publishers need to know what markets their genres fit into. No two books or products are exactly alike. So one can’t compare the outcome for titles of books in mailings others have done, to their own titles and potential outcome.
Doing co-op mailings is a good way for book publishers, self publishers, (entrepreneurs and other types of business owners too) to distribute their press releases and fliers, and to save a lot of time and money. And this free cooperative mailing service is a good way for you to find other publishers with the same marketing goals.

Antique furniture – The Victorian period

July 19th, 2009 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

Ok, if i say you antique furniture you understand that i am NOT going to talk about the very early furniture used for humans thousands of years ago. I am going to talk about the antique furniture used in the civilization.
One of the best and finest styles to talk about inside the antique furniture field is the Victorian. The Victorian antique furniture style can be divided in three periods: Early Victorian, Mid Victorian and Late Victorian. The Early Victorian, is about the furniture made between 1830 and 1850, was a mix of very styles: Charles X, neoclassical and a variation of Regency. Also was going a revival of Gothic and Rococo styles by some manufacturers with their rising usage of machines.
The Mid Victorian was essentially the “founded” by the Great Exhibiton at Crystal Palce, which joined manufacturers and designers from all Europe in the year of 1851. This exhibition generated an explotion on new styles and mixes of them. Also started the Napolen 3 style, a semi-revival of medieval ideas by people as Burgess, talbert and one of the most important: Morris.
The Late Victorian was about reproductions of european historic types, but also we have the Arts and Crafts movement by people as Ashbee, Mackintosh or Voysey introducing something closer to art nouveau, always considered the early of this period.
